Project Manager Comments.

These are the comments the project manager made to us after the project was complete:

"On behalf of the staff here at Burbank Water and Power, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mariposa Horticultural, Inc. for the outstanding work and expertise provided to date on our extensive landscape project. From our initial meeting, your company representatives displayed a proactive style in which it is quite evident that customer service is your company's number one goal. The crews at the site are conscientious, courteous and do great work. Already, we have received numerous comments on the wonderful new look the project is creating. The same can be said for the landscape maintenance services your company provided over the years for Burbank Water and Power's campus and satellite facilities."

This project involved both hardscape and landscape construction work in two main areas: the north east property line along the channel and the office frontage along Magnolia Blvd.
The North East Channel Frontage

We had to re-grade a confined area along the north east side of the property near the dangerous 25' vertical drop into the flood control channel. This particular aspect of the work, along with the irrigation and planting operations in this area were particularly difficult. We had to place 45 - 8,000lb+ palm trees along this narrow space with confined access from either end. The specifications called for the creation of a six foot deep drainage shaft at the bottom of each, four foot deep palm tree hole on a slope. Safely performing this activity, filling the holes with special backfill material and then planting the palms, in a confined space, without spilling soil into the drainage channel was a great challenge. We performed the work with special equipment and a 350 ton crane under a compressed schedule.

Office Frontage along Magnolia Blvd. All of the concrete work and paver installation (hardscape) was included in the landscape and irrigation installation of this project. Concrete work included: curbs, sidewalks, steps, ramps, walls and seat walls. The curved seat walls were an integral color pour that could not use any embedded form retention devices for construction. This made the precision forming and finish of these structures more difficult. The pavers were set in a radial pattern around a new planter. Insuring that the joint width on these pavers were uniform required the precise calculation of angles for hundreds of masonry cuts. Specimen trees were boxed and moved along with large palm plantings. Irrigation installation and other plantings were included.

Overall, the work was made even more challenging because we were required to finish everything within a compressed schedule, under a limited municipal budget. Our workers are trained to do precise installations that meticulously follow the specifications and details, making inspections easy. To their credit, they are able to do this safely and quickly. This attention to detail was reflected in the final quality of the work. The whole project was done on time and within budget. It was a job well done, winning awards from our peers and accolades from the City representative managing this project. It is a project that we are very proud of and look forward to seeing the residents of Burbank enjoy for years to come.
